At Butterfly World we aim to never stagnate and to never stop bringing even our most regular visitors a new and better experience. We have taken the leap last November and made some major changes.

Our reception area now contains the largest privately owned skeleton display in the country. This is the result of an unusual hobby of a now 12 year old boy, Francois Malherbe, who picks up road kill and gives them a new lease on life. Our latest addition is a lion’s skeleton, affectionately known as Ntando, because his feet went missing in the shipping process and he is now “running” on blades. [Ntando Mahlangu is South Africa’s 14 year old sensation who won the silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Brazil this year..] Francois and his dad got hold of Sylvester’s (the lion that escaped form the Karoo National park) brothers skeleton and meticulously copied each bone to create an epoxy model of the lion’s skeleton. Ntando the lion can be seen chasing a Springbok..much to the delight of many a British rugby fan!

The restaurant has been moved to a much more family friendly corner of the garden so that the kids can run around on the lawns or engage in a craft activity while the adults have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, or a light meal. Our sister restaurant right next door has a bigger menu, a fully licenced bar and free wifi, so for visitors who feel like a solid meal, de la Paix is the place. They are welcome to re-enter on the same day, should they want to come take a look at the animals again.

The tropical fresh water displays have been moved to the lapa where the edu-centre is also now situated, accommodating bigger groups more comfortably. During the holidays Butterfly World Zoo runs animal shows twice daily at 10:30 and 14:00 at no additional cost to our visitors. During these shows visitors can come into close contact with some of the exotic animals living at Butterfly World Zoo. Our message during these shows is simple, Appreciate, don’t keep.
